The event will take place at Hootananny, 95 Effra Road, Brixton, on 7th June 2008 to celebrate together the start of a great project, which will change completely the life of so many children in need in Thailand.
The venue is open all day; you can come in the afternoon, chilling out in the nice garden, enjoying a nice refreshing drink whilst walking through our stands of second hand stuff or any other merchandise sold by our partners.
The music will start around 8:00 pm, with Betty Steeles, who was born just around the corner, in Brixton Hill! Thanks to her talent, it didn’t take long for her to create a well known reputation. She won the competition to Play at Reading Festival for the Nokia sponsored up-and-coming artists tent. She also played at The Embassy Rooms, in Islington, at Monkeychews, in Camden in conjunction with earmusic.com and Babalou Bar, in Brixton and in many other popular venues. She also performed at 2007’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Somebody stops her!
Her acoustic led sound is made up of sweet melodies, dark undertones and an accessible individuality that Steeles has positively created as her own… with her voice she simply creates magic.
She will be followed by the Irish singer James McMorrow, who was born in Dublin and now known all around the UK. The band? It’s him! In fact he does not only sings and writes his songs, but he also plays the keys, drums, guitar and more! A great Irish musician that you can not miss!
The third band is Olympus Mons, their unique sound fuses a cross section of genres such as Indie, Rock and Roots, then voices it with subtle jazz chords and progressions finally roofed in by the sometimes desperate, sometimes dramatic and always genuine voice of the lead vocalist. Their strength is in the sound, the performance, the songs and the honesty.
They are a sparkling band; you won't be able to keep your legs still!
The last band is The Hideaways , formed by 4 guys from North London, their melodies derive from the greats, such as The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Clash, and more recently the romance and nostalgia of The Libertines, and Ryan Adams. The band have an instant chemistry, when they start playing you naturally follow their rhythm.. Everything fits in the right place: their music, their lyrics, their performance..You’ll not forget them easily!
Before starting to hit the dance floor, there will be also a raffle, an auction or a quiz in which you can win original nice prizes, free tickets, unique merchandise and obviously all the raised money will go to the Thai charity. So, take part in our games, maybe you can bring home some nice surprise!
After that, be ready to move! The DJs The Evil Hypnotist and Vital Substance will play non-stop until the end of the night! So come along and enjoy the party!!!
